Why does growing a dinosaur take so long in The Isle?

Is it just me or does growing a dinosaur feel like an entire weekend sometimes?

I know the game is supposed to reward survival and I'm not expecting instant adulthood. I'm just wondering what actually makes the biggest difference to growth, besides staying alive and eating.

Does anyone have a routine that makes the process less frustrating?

The obvious answer is don't die, which is also the hardest part of the game apparently.

Keep your diet in mind. Nutrients can affect growth, so learning the food system is more useful than wandering around hoping the bar magically moves faster.

I stopped treating every session like a race to adulthood. Explore, learn where things are and don't take fights you don't need.

Nothing like surviving for ages and then making one terrible decision near a river. Ask me how I know.
